Podcast: Does signing DeAndre Jordan mean Anthony Davis will play less center?

The DeAndre Jordan signing was officially announced by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday evening, and while not much all that interesting was said at his introductory press conference, there were certainly a few nuggets to pay a little extra attention to. This week in the “Lakers Lounge,” Harrison Faigen and I discussed the presser itself, and what it might mean for the Lakers (and specifically Anthony Davis) next season.

We start this week after a brief conversation about our vacations with what we think the NBA should do with their tampering rules. The Lakers announced a press conference twice this offseason about a player to be signed later and both Harrison and I think enough is enough. Do away with tampering rules. They’re a farce.

From there, we jump into what was actually said. Harrison thought the number one thing to take from this presser was how often Jordan spoke about competing, and while there are technically a couple ways to take his phrasing, we both think this was in reference to playing time.

If so, this all but assuredly ends the Marc Gasol era, and also might mean fewer Davis minutes at center. This won’t surprise anyone, but I’m not exactly a fan if this is actually how things play out.

Harrison and I go back and forth about what fewer Davis-at-center minutes would mean and whether he should be criticized for his approach to which position he plays, and things get fairly heated.
