The Los Angeles Lakers made official two moves that had long been rumored and reported heading into the weekend.
First, the team signed DeAndre Jordan after a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets. Jordan brings the Lakers closer to a playstyle that they had in the 2019-20 season, which the Lakers went away from last season. Perhaps most importantly, he’ll be able to play big minutes this season at center during the regular season.
On Friday, one day after signing Jordan, the Lakers traded away Marc Gasol along with a second-round pick and cash considerations to the Memphis Grizzlies, who will buy him out. It’s the end to a tumultuous relationship between Gasol and the Lakers over the last year that featured many ups and downs. Reports currently indicate Gasol will return home to Spain to finish out his career.
With both moves now official, this week’s episode of “Can U Dig It,” a podcast by the Silver Screen & Roll network, Jacob and Christian discuss the two moves and what they mean for the Lakers this season.
They then kick off the player previews heading into the season by looking specifically at Jordan. The two look at whether he still has anything left in the tank defensively before exploring his hyper-efficient season offensively in Brooklyn last year and how that may translate to the Lakers this season.
