At this point of the offseason, the general movement and news surrounding teams revolves around workout tapes on Instagram, the occasional fashion faux pas on vacation and a signing on the margins. On Tuesday, the Lakers chose the latter, as they made their reunion with Rajon Rondo official. It’s a move that for now mostly fills out the roster, but also raises a few questions.
Rondo said the right things during his media junket, primarily downplaying his need for a significant role on the team, and also acknowledging that the combination of his age and the guards already on the team could push him down the bench. With that said, he can still provide value.
With Jared Dudley now a Mavericks coach, the Lakers’ void of a respected and trusted voice in the locker room felt notable. That’s an area that Rondo could and has provided value in the past, and also something Frank Vogel in particular mentioned was missing this past season.
It still remains to be seen if Rondo is actually fully committed to that role when the season kicks off, and whether or not his brand of leadership gels with the new players on the squad, which brings us to today’s episode.
On this week’s edition of “Talk-O Tuesday,” our hosts Alex Padilla and Alex Regla discussed the potential pros and cons of the Rondo signing, why there should be an expected increase in dunks this year, and the prospects of bringing in DeAndre Jordan.
