When the Lakers hit the floor next season, they will do so not with a fresh coat of paint, but rather, a complete structural overhaul. After a flurry of transactions spearheaded by the Russell Westbrook blockbuster, the roster changed drastically this offseason in hopes of bolstering their chances at another title.
The player movement was not the only area where the team will look different this year however as the coaching staff saw change as well, most notably with Jason Kidd’s departure to Dallas. One name that was largely penciled in for a return either as a player, or potentially on the bench, was Jared Dudley.
Instead, Dudley will reportedly join Kidd as one of his lead assistants with the Mavericks. It is ultimately difficult to quantify the impact Dudley had on the Lakers during his tenure, but given the resounding positive feedback he’s received on the heels of his move to coaching, it is worth pointing out the void he will leave behind.
For the team moving forward, the behind the scenes element of the game is something an individual, or collectively as a group, have to address because while not glamorous, is something often pointed to as a critical element of any successful team. Which brings us to today’s episode.
On this week’s edition of “Talk-O Tuesday,” our hosts Alex Padilla and Alex Regla discuss Dudley’s departure from the team, potential voices on the team who can fill his void and whether this is mitigated for a veteran filled locker room.
