With all this talk about Lonzo, it made me wonder how his health compares to other possible point guards. Chemistry is so important and that can only occur by taking the floor together as much as possible. A big difference between 2019-2020 and the 2020-2021 seasons was chemistry. A ton in 2019-2020 and none in 2020-2021, mostly due to injuries.
So here is a breakdown. As you will see, Lonzo has the lowest total of games played for any point guard over the last four years except for Dinwiddie, who was out all but 3 games this season and yet only play two less games than Lonzo over 4 years.
Player '18 '19 '20 '21 Total
Dinwiddie 80, 68, 64, 03 = 215
Lonzo 52, 47, 63, 55 = 217
Brogdon 48, 64, 54, 56 = 222
Lowry 78, 65, 58, 46 = 247
CP3 58, 58, 70, 70 = 256
Schroder 67, 79, 65, 61 = 272
Simmons 81, 79, 57, 58 = 275
Rubio 77, 68, 65, 68 = 278
Lilard 73, 80, 66, 67 = 286
Sexton 82, 65, 60 = 207 (only 3 years in league, but only 10 games less than Lonzo)
Based off this, Lilard is the most durable. As far as realistic options, Rubio or Schroder stand out. Simmons I don't think is a realistic option money wise. I know there are other factors like experience and leadership (Lowry), defense, 3pt. %, etc..., but from strictly a durability point of view, I say we either roll with Schroder or try Rubio.
