Podcast: Would Marc Gasol ever demand a trade from the Lakers?

Marc Gasol is considered a consummate professional but could the Lakers push him just far enough to call it a career?

This week on the Lakers Lounge, Anthony Irwin gave Harrison Faigen a DNP. Speaking of inconsistent roles that someone is probably over-qualified for, Marc Gasol!

This week on the pod, we welcomed Keith Parish of Fastbreak Breakfast to discuss Gasol’s relationship with David Fizdale, Fizdale’s coaching style, and whether Gasol could be pushed so far as to call it a career.

To start, I asked Keith for the history behind Gasol and Fizdale’s blood feud and it turns out, not all of it falls on either’s lap. Keith does a great job explaining that, because of the circumstances (an aging Memphis Grizzlies team that missed its window, a rookie head coach with very different experience, etc.), this relationship might never have had a real chance.

Because of that, it’s fair to wonder whether both parties have recognized that in moving on and growing from the mistakes they both made at the time.

From there, we discussed how Keith thought Gasol might’ve handled the ups and downs from last year and what impact they might have on any decisions about his NBA future he makes this summer. If he isn’t interested in continuing as a Laker for whatever reason, he’ll have to either demand to be waived or traded, or retire outright. Does Keith think Gasol would do either of those things?

Finally, because Keith covers one of the most exciting young teams and arguably the most entertaining player in the sport in Ja Morant, he and I basically riffed on where they are as an organization and what makes Morant as entertaining as he is.
