The Lakers have reportedly filled in their empty spot on the coaching bench by hiring David Fizdale to replace Jason Kidd. On the latest episode of the Silver Screen & Roll podcast, your hosts Jas Kang and Sabreena Merchant react to the news as best as they can, given that they’re not privy to what assistant coaching roles are on the Lakers.
Like Kidd, Fizdale had two failed stops as a head coach prior to joining the Lakers. Unlike Kidd, Fizdale was a successful assistant on championship teams. Does that mean that Fizdale won’t be the successor-in-waiting for Frank Vogel if things go south in LakerLand? Jas and Sabreena have some differing thoughts on if Fizdale’s hire should be seen as a vote of no confidence in Vogel’s leadership thus far.
They then move on to Dennis Schröder’s reported contract demands and try to figure out what team has the cap space and need at point guard to give Schröder what he is looking for financially, because it is certainly not the Lakers. Jas and Sabreena both give their ceiling on a potential Schröder contract, and let’s just say they fall a bit short of what the free agent point guard is looking for.
Finally, they close with some thoughts on the playoffs as a whole, and whether the Clippers’ run to the Western Conference finals will help them gain any inroads in the Los Angeles fan base.
