Although their playoff run was abruptly ended, the Lakers’ knack for making news is still very much alive. No such thing as an offseason with this franchise.
On Tuesday, Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report released an article detailing the team’s chances in a potential Damian Lillard blockbuster, which may ultimately be dependent on how much Portland values Talen Horton-Tucker.
Within that same piece, one Eastern Conference executive gave their thoughts on Horton-Tucker, going as far as saying they’d give him a max contract this summer if given the chance.
Horton-Tucker is certainly an intriguing prospect, but would he be worth re-signing if it means matching such an incredible offer, especially when you consider the Lakers will have to pay up to bring back Alex Caruso and/or Dennis Schröder — both of whom are more ready to help a championship run next season.
And that’s before you get to any potential signing bringing back Horton might cause should the Lakers start worrying about luxury taxes. Though to be clear, Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka have both stated clearly they don’t mind paying up for a title favorite.
What happens with Horton-Tucker’s contract status, or potential trade, will be one of the more interesting offseason storylines for the Lakers. Which brings us to today’s episode.
On this week’s edition of “Talk-O Tuesday,” our hosts Alex Padilla and Alex Regla discuss Horton-Tucker’s value both from a financial and trade perspective for the Lakers, as well as others around the league.
