Damian Lillard hasn’t requested a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers in the nine years he’s been with the organization. However, according to a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports on Sunday, he’s the closest he’s ever been to asking out:
The enormous backlash from the Portland Trail Blazers’ process to hire a new coach and his concerns on whether a championship contender can be built have become factors that may push the franchise player — Damian Lillard — out the door, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
If Lillard does request a trade out of Portland this summer, all 30 teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, would be smart to do their due diligence on what it would take to acquire him. That being said, there are only a small handful of teams that actually have the assets to pull it off. Are the Lakers one of them? That’s the topic of this week’s episode of “Can U Dig It?”
First, Christian and Jacob talk about Haynes’ report and the factors that led Lillard to this point, including the likely ones that aren’t mentioned in the report. They then go through their favorite landing spots for Lillard and try to map out a path to get Lillard to L.A.
