We at Silver Screen and Roll have intercepted the following communication* from Marc Gasol to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, sent right after news that new starting center Andre Drummond would miss the team’s game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday.
Oh, come on, oh, yeah
Frank I tried to tell you so (yes, I did)
But I guess you didn’t know, as I said the story goes
Frank, now I got the game flow
‘Cause I knew I should get the start
Frank, but then you broke my heart
That I had to come again, and show you that I’m real
(You lied to me) All those times I said I’d start for you
(You lied to me) Yes, I tried, yes, I tried
(You lied to me) Even though you know I’d start for you
(You lied to me) Yes, I cried, yes, I cried
(Return of the Marc) It is
(Return of the Marc) Come on
(Return of the Marc) Oh my God
(You knew that I’d be back) Here I am
(Return of the Marc) Starting once again
(Return of the Marc) Pump up the world
(Return of the Marc) Watch my flow
(You knew that I’d be back) Here I go
So I’m back up in the game
Running things to keep my swing
Letting all the people know
That I’m back to run the show
‘Cause what you did, you know, was wrong
All the benching that you’ve done
So, Frank, listen carefully
While I sing my comeback song
(You lied to me) ‘Cause you said you’d never bench me
(You lied to me) But you did, but you do
(You lied to me) All these pains you said I’d never feel
(You lied to me) But I do, but I do, do, do
(Return of the Marc) It is
(Return of the Marc) Come on
(Return of the Marc) Oh my God
(You knew that I’d be back) Here I am
(Return of the Marc) Once again
(Return of the Marc) Pump up the world
(Return of the Marc) Watch my flow
(You knew that I’d be back) Don’t you know
*We would obviously never steal communications from Marc Gasol or anyone else, the above post is (hopefully obvious) satire. Original lyrics via “Return of the Mack,” by Mark Morrison.
Notes and Updates
- In addition to Drummond being out, Wesley Matthews is also questionable due to a neck injury:
Lakers say that Andre Drummond did not travel to Sacramento and is officially out.
— Kyle Goon (@kylegoon) April 2, 2021
Wesley Matthews is also questionable for tomorrow's game against the Kings after the play when Giannis hit him on the neck (which the Lakers challenged).
- Marvin Bagley is out for the Kings with a foot fracture, while Hassan Whiteside is questionable with right knee soreness. The Kings had won five games in a row before their most recent loss, and aren’t as much of a pushover as they appear to be in the standings. Especially not against this version of the Lakers, who can’t be considered a shoe-in against anyone.
- When Drummond does return, Gasol may stay in the lineup to play alongside Montrezl Harrell for the first time this season.
- The Lakers and Kings will tip off in Sacramento at 7 p.m., and the game will be televised locally on Spectrum SportsNet.
