The Los Angeles Lakers won their first game of the Andre Drummond era on Sunday, beating the Orlando Magic 96-93. Drummond didn’t play, but he signed his contract with the team earlier in the day, so it technically qualifies.
On this week’s episode of “Can U Dig It?” Christian and Jacob share their thoughts on the Drummond signing and discuss how his arrival will impact the center rotation. All of the reports leading up to Drummond’s arrival suggested that he would slide into the starting lineup, but the five-man unit of Dennis Schröder, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Marc Gasol was one of the best five-man units in the NBA at the start of the season. Should Drummond start when James and Davis return or just while they’re out?
They also discuss the probability that Drummond, Gasol and Montrezl Harrell will all play in the postseason. Frank Vogel seems confident that his team will need all of them, but are there really enough minutes for Drummond, Gasol and Harrell? Could they even play together.
They wrap up the show by talking about the Lakers’ final roster spot and report that the team is interested in bringing in a 3-and-D wing. You’ll notice that they didn’t talk about the game because, well, it was not good.
