Podcast: Can the Celtics do anything to stop the Lakers from winning ring No. 18?

The Lakers are clearly a tier above the Celtics, but this season, variance is the theme.

Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers Set Number: X163511 TK1

The Los Angeles Lakers could potentially leapfrog the Boston Celtics this season for all-time championships if this campaign goes the way we all hope it can. Whether or not the Celtics have anything to say about that is a very interesting discussion and for it, I welcomed John Karalis into the “Lakers Lounge” with Harrison Faigen out.

We start by poking a little bit of fun at Harrison, but don’t tell him we did anything of the sort.

From there, though, I was curious what those on the other coast are saying about the Lakers given the moves they made this offseason and, especially (obviously) regards to Russell Westbrook. We both agree (as is the overall consensus based on conversations I’ve had on the show and elsewhere) that the Lakers raised their ceiling but also risked lowering their floor by trading for Westbrook.

It’s honestly fairly simple. If Westbrook and LeBron James can figure out playing together, the Lakers immediately become the far and away title favorites. That said, if they can’t, then it’s hard to tell what their season looks like, given how jumbled the league is in general.

Midway through the show, we got the update about Trevor Ariza’s ankle surgery, so we reacted to that in the moment.

We then turned our attention to how the Lakers and Celtics match up against one another.

You’re never going to believe this, but the guy from Boston had nice things to say about the potential matchup. Though to be fair, I, the Lakers fan, think the Lakers match up pretty well with the Chowderheads.

Finally, to wrap things up, I made John say nice things about Pau Gasol. Hilarity ensued.
