The injury report just keeps getting longer for the Lakers, as on Monday night the team announced that Kendrick Nunn (right ankle sprain) would join Trevor Ariza (right ankle surgery), Talen Horton-Tucker (reportedly getting thumb surgery) and Malik Monk (right groin strain) in missing the team’s game against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

With Nunn hurt, every single player on a guaranteed contract under the age of 28 (other than rookie Austin Reaves) is now injured for the Lakers.

This is the first time Nunn has been listed on the injury report this preseason, and it is unknown when he sustained the injury, or even how severe of a sprain it is. With him added to the list of guys that are sidelined, expect Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore and Austin Reaves to get plenty of chances to compete for minutes at shooting guard over the remainder of training camp. In the regular season, the team may need all three, depending on how long Nunn’s ankle sprain and Monk’s groin strain linger.

In less significant news that is more relevant to Tuesday’s game specifically, there is also now a good chance that a few of the younger fringe guys — camp invites Frank Mason III, Mac McClung, Cam Oliver, Chaundee Brown and Trevelin Queen, as well as two-way rookie Joel Ayayi — get into the rotation for the final two preseason games as well. It’s unlikely any of them do enough to earn a guaranteed spot on the roster, but it’s possible that one of the former names could at least do enough to earn the team’s second two-way contract alongside Ayayi.

The Lakers do still have one open, guaranteed roster spot, but have previously said they want to leave it open for the buyout market and due to tax considerations. If this injury bug keeps up at this pace, however, they may not have a choice for much longer. James Ennis may not be done tweeting at the team to beg them to sign him just yet.
