Podcast: What’s up with the Lakers?

It’s too soon to panic, but the Lakers haven’t looked good to start the preseason.

Last season, the Milwaukee Bucks went 0-3 in their preseason games and won the NBA Finals. The Los Angeles Lakers will be hoping they can replicate that recipe for success this season after dropping their third consecutive preseason game on Sunday night.

With LeBron James given the night off on Sunday, the Lakers were blown out by the Phoenix Suns 123-94. At the center of their struggles was Russell Westbrook, who ended the night with nine turnovers, but Westbrook’s individual performance wasn’t as bad as the team’s overall effort on the defensive end.

On today’s podcast, Christian and Jacob discuss their level of concern after the third preseason game and whether it’s reasonable to expect the Lakers to turn things around before the start of the regular season on Oct. 19.

They then share their thoughts on the starting shooting guard spot and how Trevor Ariza’s injury could affect Frank Vogel’s approach to it. Before, it made sense to start Anthony Davis at the 5, but with the depth the Lakers have behind Davis at the 4, they’ll probably start a traditional center on opening night.

To close the show, they preview the Lakers’ matchup with the Warriors on Tuesday, which is expected to feature all three of Westbrook, James and Davis — it should be a fun one.
