James Ennis has gone from subtlely suggesting the Lakers signing him on social media to outright begging.
Earlier this summer, Ennis began liking tweets on Twitter suggesting he should sign with the Lakers. It was a very subtle approach, camouflaged by him liking tweets he return to the Magic as well.
He then spent time liking and commenting on pictures from the Lakers on Instagram. Whether that directly led to him getting a reported workout with the team is unlikely, but it made his desires clear.
However, Ennis — who is still unsigned — appears to be getting a bit more vocal. On Sunday during the fourth quarter of the Lakers fourth loss of the preseason and second to the Phoenix Suns, Ennis dropped the subtleties and facade and outright asked to be signed by the Lakers.
I play defense sign me already lol

Ennis, as mentioned, is still a free agent and the Lakers do still have an open roster spot. Trevor Ariza’s injury opens up a potential role for Ennis, a 6’7” forward, in the rotation. But the Lakers have maintained their desire to keep an open roster spot and that the team worked out Ennis and then signed Austin Reaves to a guaranteed contract instead of a two-way deal is most telling.
But the bigger question is how far will Ennis take this? With Twitter and Instagram leading to dead ends, will he send a message to the Lakers on Facebook? Do the Lakers have a TikTok that he can tag with footage of him sinking 3-pointers and locking up his trainers defensively? Will he ask to connect with the Lakers on LinkedIn?
Stay tuned to find out what lengths Ennis will go to attempt to be a Laker.
