The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off back-to-back losses heading into their nationally televised showdown against the Boston Celtics on Saturday, so on today’s Silver Screen and Roll podcast, our host Jas Kang was joined by ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk to preview the game between the two historic rivals, and what the Lakers need to do to get back into the win column.
Following that, Ohm and Jas got into how the new pieces fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Will we see an improvement from Marc Gasol? Will Dennis Schröder fill Rajon Rondo’s playoff shoes? And how will the new additions do when the pressure amplifies in the postseason?
The guys then looked around the Western Conference and discuss which teams can challenge the Lakers. Under new head coach Tyronn Lue, the Clippers are moving the ball better and playing more as a team. Ohm — who has covered both teams extensively — shares his thoughts on if that will be enough to dethrone the defending champions come playoff time.
Davis is an X-factor that most NBA teams don’t have an answer for. Ohm and Jas talked about Davis’ greatness and why he and players like Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets have changed how the game has played. Finally, they compared how the league is different from the 1990s until now, and why they miss the NBA rivalries from the old era. Then, to wrap things up, Ohm shared what it’s like covering the league during the pandemic.
Lakers vs. Celtics tips off at 5:30 p.m. PT, and will be televised only on ABC.
