Roughly a month into the season, the Lakers are the best team in the NBA. But for the first time this season, there is slight concern among the fanbase.
According to the most recent SB Nation Reacts survey, 92 percent of Lakers fans are confident the team is headed in the right direction, which is still extremely high, but it’s a dip from the full 100 percent support the team has seen through the first four weeks.
These results come on the heels of the Lakers’ loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday. In that loss, they blew a 19-point lead and made a few costly mistakes in crunch time. It’s a game they should have won.
The new numbers also come on the heels of the James Harden trade. For most of the season, the Lakers had an argument to be the most interesting team in the NBA and the favorite to win the title. However, after the the Nets finalized a deal to bring Harden to Brooklyn, adding him to a roster featuring Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the power dynamics have changed.
Fortunately, they don’t appear they’ve changed all that much. While the Nets are undoubtedly talented, at least at the top of their roster, a majority of the NBA fans we polled aren’t confident they’re a championship team yet.
Despite the lack of confidence in the team, one thing is almost unanimous among fans. When the Nets are in position to take a game-winning shot, Durant should be the one with the ball. 87 percent of fans picked Durant while eight percent picked Harden and only five percent picked Irving.
