The budding rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers has the potential to be the best one in basketball right now.
Both LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard have proven they can be the best players on a championship team — but each want to secure their third title with a third different organization — while Paul George and Anthony Davis are hoping to show they’re on the same level as their co-stars. There are also smaller storylines like the sibling rivalry between twins Markieff and Marcus Morris, the Dwight Howard redemption arc and Ivica Zubac’s quest to prove the Lakers wrong for trading him for nothing at the deadline last year.
But as intense as the rivalry between the Lakers and Clippers has been thus far, they managed to put their differences aside to take a stand for racial justice.
On Wednesday, the Lakers and Clippers banded together to cast their votes to cancel the NBA playoffs. While games are now expected to resume, their willingness to walk out on the season set the tone for the conversations that were had within the NBA the next day, and seem to have secured some of the positive change the players are seeking within the league.
On the debut episode of “The L.A. Basketball Show,” Christian and Sabreena talked about how those conversations have gone, and the voices that have driven them, including LeBron James and Doc Rivers.
They also discussed the significance of Wednesday’s strike, and what they hope it means for the NBA going forward.
