The Lakers finally played a game of consequence on Thursday, taking on the Clippers in their seeding round opener. On the latest episode of the Silver Screen & Roll podcast, Anthony and Sabreena discussed their favorite parts of the team’s 103-101 win.

They start with the general joy of having the Lakers back on television, then segue into Kyle Kuzma’s performance. The Lakers have been touting Kuzma’s play throughout practice and scrimmages in Orlando, and Kuzma showed out on both ends of the floor against the Clippers. Anthony and Sabreena went over how Kuzma has improved his defensive effort throughout the season, especially in marquee games, and discussed the Lakers’ ceiling when Kuzma is a consistent tertiary scoring threat.

The two hosts then got into the play of Dion Waiters, who has somewhat seamlessly fit into the role Rajon Rondo used to occupy. The joys and perils of Waiters Island were in full effect against the Clippers, but he clearly did enough right to end with a game-high plus-minus of +17 in his 21 minutes.

The pair closes out the show with a discussion of what this game means in the larger context of the Lakers’ postseason run, and why the Lakers/Clippers matchup has been so thrilling throughout this season. Hopefully, it culminates in the playoff series we’ve all been waiting for.
