For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Los Angeles Lakers will participate in the postseason — that, in and of itself, is an accomplishment worth celebrating. However, the thing that will make this postseason appearance different from their 49 others is the date.
According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic on Monday, the NBA is tentatively planning to start the playoffs on August 18. On August 18 of last year, the Memphis Grizzlies granted the Lakers permission to speak to Dwight Howard — you know, because it was the offseason! There are some benefits to the season wrapping up so late, though.
For example, because the season is restarting in July, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get the Lakers fan in your life some fresh purple and gold gear for Father’s Day. To be clear, the person has to be a father. I mean, you could buy one of your friends an Anthony Davis jersey and give it to him on Father’s Day, but you’re not obligated to.
I hope that clears up any misunderstanding.
To save you, our dear readers, the headache of searching for different things from all across the web, we’ve organized a list of things that we think a Lakers fan would like for Father’s Day — and believe me when I say we’re kind of experts on this sort of thing. As tempting as it might be to get your dad another mug, there are plenty of worthy alternatives on this list.
Just look at the Caruso shirt!
