Before the Los Angeles Lakers wore purple and gold jerseys with a “Lakers” wordmark logo across their chests, they wore blue and while, and the wordmark across the top half of the jersey read “Los Angeles.”
While we picked the Showtime era jerseys as the greatest jersey in Lakers history for SB Nation’s Jersey Week, it wasn’t an easy decision because of those beautiful blue jerseys.

The Lakers wore blue and white from 1960 to 1965, with white as their home color and blue as their road color. As everyone knows, white is (or at least should be) reserved for Sundays now, but the Lakers haven’t won blue 2002-03 season, when they wore them for a handful of games.
For a jersey that gorgeous, that’s far too long.

It’s for that reason that I, Christian Rivas — on behalf of the staff at Silver Screen & Roll and Lakers fans everywhere — am asking the team to bring them back next season. To be clear, we’re not asking for them to bring back them back permanently; the purple and gold is too iconic for a permanent change.
But would it be nice to see LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Alex Caruso — the Lakers’ Big 3 — strut out of the locker room in those crisp blue jerseys? Absolutely.
So, please — from the bottom of our hearts — bring back the blue next season, Lakers. I mean, just look at them! They’re gorgeous, and would easily be the most-purchased jersey next season — like, by a lot!
We’ll be available to talk at @LakersSBN if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
