On the latest episode of “I Love Basketball” — a podcast by Silver Screen and Roll — host Sabreena Merchant and guest co-host Anthony Irwin reacted to the big news of the day: The Lakers filled their 15th roster spot with free agent guard Dion Waiters.

The two of them went through what they think Waiters can add to a team that does (at least in theory) have a use for the sort of ballhandling chops he can bring to the table, and also debated what sort of minutes he will even receive after essentially replacing the recently waived Troy Daniels, who didn’t really play very much at all for the Lakers. They also expressed some concerns about the acquisition, and got into why Waiters was available at this point in the season.

Sabreena and Anthony then transitioned into a preview of the Lakers’ upcoming stretch of games, starting with their weekend slate against the Milwaukee Bucks and LA Clippers, a chance for the Lakers to finally prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can beat some fellow contenders for a title.

They specifically compared how the Lakers and Clippers utilized the trade deadline and buyout market to stack their rosters for the postseason run, and also discussed how much regular season head-to-head records matter come playoff time.
