Lakers basketball is gone, and potentially for a very long time. This leaves us, a website dedicated to the Lakers, in a very weird spot, as far as what to write about.
But just because real basketball is gone, doesn’t mean that the fictional version can’t still be watched and remembered. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Over the next few weeks or months (for however long the season is suspended), we at Silver Screen and Roll are going to be undertaking a new project: Writing about fictional Lakers games that happened in movies as if we were actually there, covering it in real time.
Sound weird? It very much is. Here’s our first shot at it, an example from the 2015 film “Daddy’s Home.” We’re having a lot of fun with this, and we hope you’ll enjoy reading through and looking back at more enjoyable times right along with us. If it’s not your thing, we get that too, but if you’re into it, leave some future movie suggestions in the comments of the articles! We’d love to hear from you about what fictional Lakers game you’d like us to do next.
The Lakers were the first team to really get embraced by Hollywood, both in terms of celebrities sitting courtside at their games, and with players appearing on the proverbial silver screen that serves as this site’s namesake. We’ve always tried to have some fun with weird stuff here, and for as long as we’re all locked away with no basketball, we might as well try and have some laughs together, too.
So check out all the stories in this series below, as this page will update when new ones drop.
