So, as you’ve probably well aware of by now, the Los Angeles Lakers — and the rest of the NBA — will not be playing games for at least a month or so, and potentially longer, due to the threat of COVID-19, or the coronavirus.
Very low down on the list of concerns right now, but a concern nonetheless, is what does a Lakers community talk about when the Lakers are gone? This isn’t like the offseason, so standard season preview stuff doesn’t really apply. There is no free agency or the draft going on, and not even a lockout to cover.
This is, quite literally, an unprecedented moment in NBA history.
But this is still a gathering place for all of us to write, podcast, read, comment and have a conversation. Together. The Lakers may have brought us all here, but now we’re a community, and I’m not going anywhere just because there isn’t any basketball on. I hope this is a place that can give you some respite as well.
Still, while we wait to learn more about how long this downtime for the Lakers and NBA is going to last, today I come to you, our community members, and ask a simple question: What do you want to hear more about as we transition into what looks like it will be a lengthy downtime for the NBA?
I posed the question on Twitter yesterday and got some good ideas, but want to make sure I do it here as well. This is a chance to make your voice heard, and request some stuff you’d like to read or hear us dig into, either on the site or on our podcasts. We want to give you what you’re looking for, and having never run a Lakers website during anything like this before, I will fully admit I am completely open to ideas or suggestions for what you’d like more of from us. I make no promises that we’ll deliver on all of these ideas, but I do promise to read and consider them with you.
This should be a place where you feel like you can pull up to the comments like it’s you’re neighborhood sports bar, and chat with your friends about whatever is going on in your lives. We’re all in this together. We all need to be kind to each other. I’ve seen this community get through tough situations plenty of times. Too many times now, if we’re being honest.
Still, it’s all given me faith in the people here. So believe me when I say I know we can do this. I just wish we didn’t have to, again.
But as long as we’re here, let’s talk, and try to have some fun to distract from a world that isn’t so fun right now. I’ll see you all down in the comments.
