Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Lakers bolstered their depth by signing Markieff Morris, a stretch-4 that is expected to bring some much-needed toughness to their bench unit. What was even more impressive than the signing itself, though, was the fact that they didn’t need to waive a rotation player to sign him.
Essentially, the Lakers’ cost Morris nothing.
That won’t be the case if they want to add another player via free agency, and it sounds like that’s an option they’re strongly considering. During Tuesday’s broadcast of the Lakers’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans, TNT sideline reporter Chris Haynes reported that the Lakers plan to meet with free agent guard Dion Waiters for the second time on Monday. The Lakers have also been linked to J.R. Smith, although Smith has said himself that nobody from the team has reached out to him.
On today’s show, Christian and Jacob talk about what Waiters and Smith would bring to the Lakers, and which player they’d rather have. They also take a look at what else is on the market to see if there’s any under-the-radar moves the Lakers can make. Lastly, they mindlessly speculate which player is most likely to be cut as a result of a signing in free agency.
