In less than two months, the 2020 NBA playoffs will tip off, and barring a meltdown of catastrophic proportions, the Los Angeles Lakers will be one of the 16 teams competing for the Larry O’Brien trophy.
It’s been seven years since the Lakers have played postseason basketball, which is tied with the New York Knicks for the longest active playoff drought in the entire NBA — not exactly elite company. But while the Knicks will almost definitely be back at the NBA Draft Lottery in May, the Lakers are hoping to make a deep playoff run, and they have the talent to do it with their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
In this week’s episode of “Can U Dig It?”, hosts Christian Rivas and Jacob Rude previewed the Lakers’ road to the NBA Finals, and broke down the potential matchups for each round. If the season ended today, the Lakers would play the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, a team they’ve beaten twice in two meetings this season. The second round is where things start to get interesting.
They also talked about sleeper teams that could sneak into the playoffs and give the Lakers a hard time like the Portland Trail Blazers. Their roster as a whole may not be threatening, but Damian Lillard is.
