Ever since the Lakers signed Marc Gasol in free agency, fans have been clamoring for the team to bring back Pau Gasol as well, uniting the two brothers on an NBA team for the first time and giving Pau — a Laker legend — a proper send-off into retirement.
It was revealed Wednesday that the elder Gasol also has interest in ending his career with the Lakers, so on the latest episode of “I Love Basketball” on the Silver Screen & Roll podcast, Anthony Irwin and Sabreena Merchant discussed what exactly Gasol and the Lakers have to gain if Pau were to have a second stint with this franchise.
They begin with how Gasol’s first turn with the Lakers ended and why he would even want to come back, followed by what the Lakers owe to him as a former star and someone who wasn’t treated particularly well the last time around. They then move on to what Gasol actually has to offer from a basketball perspective and how that fits in to this particular Lakers roster, as well as the financial ramifications of actually offering Gasol a contract.
Anthony and Sabreena then move on to the preseason, which is less than 48 hours away, and get into what they are hoping to see from the Lakers on the court, even if the results are immaterial. Frank Vogel didn’t seem to decide on his starting lineup until after the 2019 preseason, so there are real stakes, and the two hosts get into what positional battles could be at play over these exhibition games.
Finally, Sabreena challenges Anthony to come up with a new hashtag for LeBron James’ 18th season to replace #RevengeSZN, and you won’t want to miss Anthony’s answer.
