The Los Angeles Lakers have until Dec. 21 to try and negotiate a rookie contract extension with Kyle Kuzma, and it doesn’t sound like they’re in any hurry to strike a deal with the 25-year-old.
According to a report from Kyle Goon of the O.C. Register on Thursday, the Lakers have “tabled” talks with Kuzma and his camp about a contract extension, leading one to believe that Rob Pelinka is comfortable letting these negotiations leak into next summer. That probably makes the most sense for both parties, but Kuzma entering restricted free agency could also open the door for him to sign a big offer sheet with another team.
On today’s episode of “The 30,” part of the Silver Screen and Roll podcast network, our hosts Christian Rivas and Jas Kang discuss what the market for Kuzma could look like next summer, what it probably is right now and what options the Lakers have if Kuzma does sign an offer sheet with another team in free agency.
They also talked about Talen Horton-Tucker’s productive preseason, and why he could create a separate headache for the Lakers in restricted free agency next summer if he keeps playing this well. That would be a good problem to have, but still.
