Talen Horton-Tucker has been the star of the NBA preseason. Through two preseason games with the Los Angeles Lakers, Horton-Tucker has scored more points than anyone in the league and he’s done it while shooting an impressive 50% from the field. Yes, two games is a small sample size, but that’s the beauty of the preseason, isn’t it?
The question with Horton-Tucker now is: is he anything more than another preseason star? Our hosts Jacob and Christian try to answer that question on today’s episode of “Can U Dig It?”
First, they recap the Lakers’ 131-106 win over the Clippers on Sunday, in which Horton-Tucker once again set a new career-high for points (33) and led the Lakers in scoring. He also ended the night with a game-high box plus-minus of +36. It was a good night for him.
Then, they try and figure out how much of Horton-Tucker’s production is sustainable. For example, Horton-Tucker has been draining threes in the preseason, but last season with the South Bay Lakers, he shot just 30.9% from 3-point range. Is this the new and improved Horton-Tucker, or is he going to fall back down to earth eventually?
Finally, they take their best guesses on where he fits into the rotation, and which units could maximize his potential.
