We knew the Los Angeles Lakers would play on Christmas Day this year (because they always do), but now we know who their opponent will be: The Dallas Mavericks, which is a little bit of a surprise, considering that most expected to see them face the Golden State Warriors and LA Clippers in some order during the NBA’s opening week (the Lakers will likely have at least one game before Christmas).

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN somehow got the leak from ESPN. Man, that guy has sources everywhere! And has apparently learned photoshop over the short offseason!

Hopefully LeBron actually wears this hat during the game. Now THAT would be a festive way to hide a bald spot!

In all seriousness, despite this being kind of a surprising matchup, this should be a really fun game. LeBron James’ duel with Luka Doncic as the Lakers and Mavericks went to overtime in their first showdown last season was one of the most entertaining games of the whole year, and it’s always a blast to watch Doncic try to outshine the man he grew up idolizing as James tries to remind him he’s still King.

It’s just too bad Dwight Howard won’t be around to do this again, because the Mavericks’ (and their fans’) reactions to it were priceless:

I still sort of can’t believe that we’re only like three weeks away from actual regular season NBA games, but the league is at least giving us (at minimum) one pretty good one as it hits the ground running. This is a gift to be excited about.

And no Knicks! We must have been really good this year. Thanks, Adam Silver.
