With training camp set to start in a week, the Los Angeles Lakers are slowly filling out their roster for training camp, and on Tuesday they made their latest addition. According to a report from Ben Stinar of The Big Lead, the Lakers are signing Kevon Harris, a shooting guard out of Steph F. Austin State University, to a contract.
Harris confirmed the signing on his personal Twitter account:

While the terms of the deal haven’t been reported, it’s safe to assume that Harris’ contract is a non-guaranteed contract, which is common for undrafted free agents like Harris who are invited to participate in a team’s training camp. It could also be an Exhibit 10 contract, which would give Harris financial incentive to sign a contract with the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. The Lakers signed Tres Tinkle to a an Exhibit 10 contract last week.
Of the undrafted free agents the Lakers have signed this offseason, Harris’ stats arguably stand out the most. In his senior season with Stephen F. Austin, Harris averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting 48.8% shooting from the field and 41.3% from 3-point range. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, the latter of which was the ninth-most in the Southland Conference.
Harris’ senior averages earned him the title of Southland Player of the Year. He also made two All-Southland teams, including the first team for the 2019-20 season.
For his four-year college career, Harris posted a remarkable 60.2% true shooting percentage. He can shoot the ball — the question with Harris is everything else.
Harris having a singular NBA skill is a great, obviously, but he’ll need to show that he can use that skill to play a complementary role at the G League level, and then the NBA level. He also needs to show signs of having a secondary skill. Harris did a little bit of everything in college, but showing that he can do at least one other thing at a high level will be huge for him.
Here’s to hoping Harris ends up in South Bay, because the talent is definitely there.
