The Mobile, Alabama Police Department is investigating verbal threats allegedly made by Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins towards his former girlfriend, according to TMZ.
TMZ reports that Cousins reportedly threatened to kill his former girlfriend during a phone call on Aug. 23. TMZ posted audio which they say is Cousins speaking to her.
The Lakers and NBA both released statements to ESPN in response to the allegations against Cousins.
Lakers' statement on the @TMZ_Sports report on DeMarcus Cousins: "We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously. We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time."

TMZ reports that the alleged victim is filing a restraining order against Cousins.
Cousins was signed by the Lakers in July after spending the prior season with the Golden State Warriors. He tore his ACL two weeks ago and is expected to miss the entire season.
