Podcast: Is it safe for the Lakers to rely on DeMarcus Cousins for consistent production?

DeMarcus Cousins is one of the more talented players the NBA has ever seen, when healthy. The Lakers need him to get and stay that way.

Before his pair of injuries, DeMarcus Cousins seemed destined for an outright productive and positive NBA career. When he signed with the Golden State Warriors for pennies a year ago, many considered it a speed bump that he would eventually rebound from. The Lakers now hope that he can really do that with them, even if it makes it impossible to keep him around beyond this season.

Our hosts discussed his season, the back-and-forth through the media between LeBron James and David Griffin, and plenty more on today’s podcasts.

I Love Basketball

Fresh from escapades in a foreign land, Sabreena joyfully rejoins Sasha on the air to continue the Silver Screen and Roll podcast’s player previews with a sometimes thorny conversation about how DeMarcus Cousins fits on the team.

Sasha lets her feelings overshadow the truth and Sabreena errs on the safe side — yin and yang, not respectively. Will Cousins start? Can he play with LeBron and AD? What is the true essence of “Boogie”? All that and more on I Love Basketball.

Locked on Lakers

Pete and I start this episode with a discussion about James and Griffin. As inflammatory as the statements seemed to be, a lot of the things Griffin pointed out are fairly self-explanatory not just with James, but with most superstars. Of course playing with James is complicated. Greatness is almost never straightforward.

From there, we talk about the media circus many seem to really have a problem with, and how James has cultivated a lot of that vibe. Again, he isn’t necessarily the first to approach his relationship with the media in this way, but this is definitely as far as that end of the spectrum has ever been pushed.

Once we disentangle those topics, we opened up the mailbag to get to the questions that really need answering, like which is the proper way to place toilet paper on the spindle.
