Last year, NBA 2K gave us our first look at LeBron James in his new Lakers uniform. This year, they’ve done the same thing with the team’s newest star, Anthony Davis, and possibly given us a sneak peak at the team’s new jerseys in the process.
On Wednesday, 2K sent out the first picture of Davis wearing the full purple and gold armor from their official Twitter account. Davis is the cover star for NBA 2K20 and it looks like he was shooting some promotional stuff for the game, which is set to release on Sept. 6:

After taking in the emotions that come with seeing Davis suited up in a Lakers uniform, one might notice the small change that was made to the uniform. Last season, the Lakers introduced brand new jerseys inspired by the iconic “Showtime Lakers” jerseys. This season, it seems as though they’ve tweaked the jerseys to make them look a little more like the ones Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wore.

Here’s a side-by-side of last year’s drop shadow compared to the one Davis is wearing:

It’s hard alteration to notice if you’re not looking for it, but it’s one that will help Davis join LeBron James among the league’s top jersey sellers this upcoming season. Last season, James finished first in jersey sales, followed by Stephen Curry and reigning league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, the Lakers finished first among teams in merchandise sales.
Davis might not break into the top three this year, especially if James still plans of giving Davis the No. 23 next year, but he should be able to crack the top-15, something he hasn’t done since 2016, when he ranked 13th in jersey sales. If he delivers for the Lakers, there’s no reason he should finish outside the top-15 ever again.
