Podcast: What to make of the Lakers interviewing Jason Kidd

The Lakers freaked the fan base out by interviewing Jason Kidd, and then quickly let it be known he probably won’t get the job. So, what gives?

Today’s shows focus on the latest head coach the Los Angeles Lakers have decided to interview, Jason Kidd. This doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Show Tiempo

With Jordan out this week, Alex reacted to the news of Rob Pelinka interviewing Jason Kidd for the head coach position. He’s not a fan.

(The good news: Kidd reportedly isn’t high on the Lakers’ list of candidates)

Alex was then joined by senior writer for the Big Lead, Ryan Phillips. Phillips covers the Lakers/NBA and is a diehard Lakers fan. They talk about their initial excitement in the summer of 2018 when LeBron James signed with Los Angeles and what went wrong this season.

Alex asks Ryan why the Lakers seem to be operating in reverse. Why are the Lakers looking for a head coach without replacing Magic Johnson, and with the seeming uncertainty around the future of general manager Rob Pelinka? Then Ryan tells Alex who he thinks would be the best head coach for the Lakers going forward.

Lastly, Ryan makes his predictions. Who will be in the Lakers front office for the 2019-20 season, who will be the head coach and which free agents will sign with the Lakers. Locked on Lakers

Minutes before Pete and I started recording, reports dropped of the Lakers interviewing Kidd. See if you can figure out our feelings toward the decision based on the first few minutes of the show. (Spoiler: We weren’t thrilled)

From there, well, we have a bit of a therapy session. We want to believe that the Lakers aren’t this dumb, but their actions have long been too obvious to ignore. Maybe things turn around soon, but as of right now, they seem damned to not learn from their mistakes and, as is usually the case, repeat them.
