Podcast: How would the Lakers have fared in these NBA playoffs?

The first round of the NBA playoffs have been quite fun, but how would the Lakers have looked if they were put against some of these teams in a seven-game series?

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

All things considered, it was a fairly nice, quiet weekend around the Los Angeles Lakers. Let’s just say it was a welcomed change of pace. Still, there was plenty to talk about and our shows catch you up on anything you might’ve missed.

I Love Basketball

In this episode of “I Love Basketball”, Sabreena and Sasha go through the latest Lakers news, including the surprisingly deliberate search for a new head coach and the theoretical “shadow executive” who may be swooping in to save the franchise.

(Narrator: There is no shadow executive swooping in the save the franchise)

Then, inspired by the first round of the NBA playoffs, they engage in a thought experiment by imagining an alternate timeline in which the Lakers qualified for the postseason this year. They discuss what that would mean for the team’s young players, how they would fare, and what sorts of flaws would be exposed in the crucible of a seven-game series.

Finally, they talk about how making the playoffs this year would have impacted the way we view LeBron James and his legacy.

Locked on Lakers

To open the show, I offer up the latest on the direction it appears the Lakers are going in. Rob Pelinka is going to be the guy, so what might this mean moving forward. Sure, in theory, he could work out, but the opportunity cost involved with keeping him and not even considering other candidates can’t be ignored.

With that as context for the rest of the show, I opened up the mailbag to answer all your questions, and there were some good ones. My personal favorite was someone asking me to put myself in a free agent’s shoes and offering up how I would approach potentially signing with the Lakers.
