Pelicans have yet to respond to latest Lakers trade offer for Anthony Davis

We have crossed the 24-hour threshold before the NBA trade deadline, and the New Orleans Pelicans have turner their “read” receipts back off in their trade negotiations with the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN filled us in with the latest coming out of New Orleans:

Isn’t New Orleans leaking that they’ve yet to respond a response in and of itself, though?

Still, it seems the two teams haven’t spoken since the Lakers were so put off by New Orleans’ demands that they backed out of trade negotiations. Much like the Pelicans leaking the above, though, the Lakers reportedly backing out was a negotiation tactic in and of itself. And really, isn’t life all just one giant negotiation tactic?

(I’m sorry everyone but I’ve written about this like 37 different times, sent endless tweets about it, and recorded a week’s worth of shows on it. I’m at my wits’ end.)

Maybe the Pelicans and Lakers are still talking. Maybe they aren’t. Maybe New Orleans not returning the Lakers’ calls is a good thing, as offering up the demanded 52 picks (approximately) and entire rotation would hugely limit what the Lakers might be able to do. Maybe Davis is worth that price and then some. Who’s to say?

What we do know is that there is a season beyond the trade deadline and, based on how things looked Tuesday night in Indiana, the Lakers will have some damage control to do both with their players, and their fans. Davis would go a long way in helping those efforts, but as things are looking increasingly likely that he won’t be coming, the focus will have to be on making things worth with the roster the Lakers have.
