Look. Anthony Davis is almost assuredly re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers when he hits free agency in July. But still, he’s going to asked about this summer plenty this season, so here is your spot for all the latest updates on whatever he or his camp says about the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks or any other team.
But remember: Davis has been trying to get to the Lakers in one form or fashion for almost a year as of the time of this post, possibly even dating back to when he hired Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. Then there was LeBron James’ public pining for Davis, a messy trade saga that tanked both the New Orleans Pelicans’ and Lakers’ seasons, and finally a trade that got done in July that gave Davis and James what they wanted.
So after everything Davis has done and said to get to L.A., it really does seem unlikely that he’d turn around and bolt after one season (barring catastrophe), or that the Lakers would have given up everything that they gave up for him without some level of behind-the-scenes confidence that Davis was planning on remaining in the purple and gold for a long time beyond this summer. He has to give off the appearance that he’s a free agent, but there really don’t seem to be many logical reasons to actually consider the possibility of him leaving as a serious threat for very long.
So anyway, none of these updates mean Davis is leaving. But because Davis can enter free agency this summer, it’s all still a situation worth keeping track of for a Lakers website. Just don’t stress too much about it while you read about all these updates, because so far there really aren’t realistic reasons to worry.
