The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the few teams that have yet to release a new jersey this season. In fact, in the time it’s taken the Lakers to announce a new jersey, the LA Clippers have announced two new jerseys: A “City” edition jersey and a throwback jersey that pays homage to their start in Buffalo, New York.

The good news is that the Lakers will have a jersey, and we may have the first details on it thanks to a Mark Ruffalo-like leak from Danny Green. During an appearance on ESPN’s “Now Or Never,” Green revealed that his favorite Lakers jersey is one that hasn’t been released yet (emphasis mine):

When you look back at the highlights — which you say you reluctantly do, what do you think you look slickest in? What colors? Are you getting used to the Lakers colors yet?

A little bit. I like the — we haven’t worn them yet — I like the black uniforms. But I think the statement purple ones are pretty solid, too. I’m getting a feel for it, I’m getting used to it.

The Lakers, as an organization, have been fans of the black unis for several years. In 2017, Nike’s first year back as the NBA’s official apparel sponsor, the Lakers unveiled their “Black Mamba” jerseys, which were designed with the help of Kobe Bryant. In the years before that, they rolled out different iterations of their black “Hollywood Nights” jerseys.

While it would have been nice for the Lakers to get out of their comfort zone a bit, black jerseys almost never look bad, especially when they have gold accents. The Lakers unveiled their “City” jerseys in the second week of November last year, so expect them to do it around the same time this year.
