Today’s podcasts focus on, well, reacting to an altogether disappointing Lakers loss, this time to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Grab your comfort blankets. This gets ugly.
The 30
Host Jas Kang speaks with Silver Screen and Roll writer and analytics guru Alex Regla after the Lakers loss at home to the Timberwolves.
The guys start things off by breaking down the return of Rajon Rondo, the team’s offensive struggles in the second half, and Luke Walton’s options.
Alex and Jas follow that by touching on the Carmelo Anthony saga, if Dennis Smith Jr. is a fit, and break down other potential targets for the Lakers heading towards the trade deadline as well as into the offseason.

Locked on Lakers
Today’s episode features a couple rants by both Pete and I about the overall state of the organization. We start by first talking about some of the frustrations that came out of that loss to Minnesota, starting with Luke Walton refusing to stagger minutes, or come off this hard-lined stance that 10 guys have to play every game and there have to be minutes that feature a bench-only lineup. It legitimately cost the Lakers last night’s game.
Beyond Walton, though, the Lakers have a legitimately flawed roster. Anytime a team’s best 3-point shooter by percentage is Rajon Rondo, you know that team is going to struggle offensively. That’s a borderline Newtonian Law. Once again, this is a reason for concern about the entire organization. How did they not see this kind of problem coming?
Sure, Josh Hart’s slump without LeBron James around was somewhat predictable, but the Lakers don’t employ a single shooter who makes you think any shot from deep they put up is going in. That has to change, and it’s look like it might at the deadline.
This was a good venting session for both Pete and I, and here’s hoping things turn around soon.
