Podcast: How would a Jimmy Butler trade affect the Lakers?

New, comments

Jimmy Butler is probably mere hours from being traded to an unknown destination. How that plays out will have legitimate ramifications on the Lakers.

Usually, Mondays are designated for mailbags on Locked on Lakers, but this was a special occasion. We somehow reached 500 episodes, and for having lasted this long, I figured we’d celebrate with the rare Harrison, Pete and myself combination show.

Harrison almost ruined everything because of course he did.

We start the episode by discussing this whole Jimmy Butler situation. As of right now, Butler still plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. That probably won’t remain the case for particularly long, but here we are.

Seeing as we don’t know what his eventual destination might be, all we could do was speculate and analyze the situation based on a couple of the likelier scenarios: The Los Angeles Clippers if he stays west and, if he heads back east, the Miami Heat.

We discuss how this impacts the playoff picture and, eventually, free agency a year from now. One theme has been consistent throughout this offseason regarding Butler and other free agents next year, and it’s that the Lakers have their sights set higher than even a multiple-time all star like Jimmy Buckets.

It also wouldn’t be a Lakers podcast if we didn’t wonder aloud whether Anthony Davis signing with Klutch Sports indicates he’ll join LeBron James on the Lakers.

I guess training camp is kicking off too, so we definitely had to spend some time previewing some of the storylines worth keeping an eye on. We also offer our bold predictions from camp and, apparently, mine wasn’t bold enough initially so I had to up the ante. Harrison and Pete made me do it.

As always, this is just a tidbit of the full context given in the show. Listen to the full discussion below and please check out old episodes, or guarantee you won’t miss any ever again by subscribing on iTunes.
