A potential Los Angeles Lakers superteam of Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James sounds almost too good to be true, and it just might be. With the draft (and thus the easiest opportunity to acquire Leonard from the Spurs) having passed, that particular grouping may never come to be.
The dream isn’t dead yet, however, as the Lakers are reportedly trying to add an extra first-round pick to their coffers in order to grease the wheels of a deal for Leonard that they are now actively discussing in order to entice James to sign with them. However, even with an extra first rounder, making those acquisitions in the correct order and doing so in time to team up the two superstars seems unlikely with free agency approaching.
Still, that doesn’t mean that fans can’t dream, and Lakers hype video extraordinaire Chris Manning (aka LD2K) has brought us a new offseason trailer that will get you hoping that the Lakers can pull off the impossible.
Manning’s choice of the “No Strings on Me” trailer from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is an apt one here, as Leonard’s trade demand has seemingly been created by him breaking free of whatever mind control program the Spurs put their players in and realizing “Hey, I don’t have to take this if they’re going to publicly call me out for how I handle my injury.”
The bad news, again, is that the vision Manning is getting you pumped for may not come to pass. But hey, hope is never a bad thing, and maybe he can channel his inner LaVar Ball and video edit this thing into existence. It may not work, but trust me, there are worse ways to spend this offseason than by getting excited about a potential superteam.
