Notre Dame guard Matt Farrell is set to work out in front of the Los Angeles Lakers front office on Monday, according to Adam Zagoria of the New York Times. Zagoria also reports that Farrell will work out for the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
Farrell, a four-year senior who averaged 16.3 points and 5.5 assists in his time at Notre Dame, is unlikely to be the only name in Monday’s workout given that he’s not ranked among the top 100 prospects in the 2018 class by Jonathan Givony of ESPN and is thus unlikely to be selected on draft day.
Despite that reality, this doesn’t mean the Lakers are wasting Farrell’s time, or their own. Farrell could be a consideration for either the Lakers’ Sacramento or Las Vegas summer league rosters, or simply as an undrafted free agent worthy of a training camp flier.
While it’s unknown who Farrell will be working out against in Monday’s session, the workout will be the second in two days for the Lakers, who are set to host Kevin Hervey of Texas-Arlington, Alize Johnson of Missouri State, Terry Larrier of Connecticut, Thomas Wilder of Western Michigan, Jared Terrell of Rhode Island and Moritz Wagner of Michigan on Sunday as they continue to prepare for a draft in which they hold the No. 25 and No. 47 picks.
