Lakers bringing back Travis Wear on second 10-day contract

After inking his first NBA contract in over two years earlier this month, Travis Wear has earned a second 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In his five games with Los Angeles, Wear has averaged 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in a limited role (10.4 minutes per game). While that might not seem all that impressive, he has actually been pretty solid on both ends, particularly the defensive end where he’s shown he can hold his own. That wasn’t something fans were expecting when he signed on.

His shot is a work in progress (42.9 percent on 4.2 attempts per game), but for the most part he’s been servicable in spot minutes on the floor. Needless to say, he earned his second 10-day contract.

After this 10-day contract expires, the Lakers will have to decide whether or not they plan on keeping him around for the remainder of the season.

Typically, during this time of the year, we see players sign multi-year deals with their respective teams with a non or partial guarantee in the second year. If the Lakers do decide to bring him back, expect his contract to look similar to that.

Wear is one of two players on 10-day contracts with the Lakers currently, the other being former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams. The Lakers have no roster openings at this time.
