Usually, Monday episodes of Locked on Lakers are for opening up and emptying out the iTunes mailbag. When a couple hall of famers are made available for the show, though, they become the priority. So what better way to start a work week than by listening to Candace Parker and James Worthy give their thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers? There is no better way to start a work week, if we’re being completely honest with ourselves.
Before we get to that, some current news required mentioning. The Lakers had about as impressive a win Saturday evening as any they’ve had so far. On the second night of a back-to-back, coming off a disappointing loss in San Antonio, the team seemed to rally around each other and their coach, and took care of business in Memphis.
In the first segment, I discussed that game and what it might mean in the bigger picture. Seeing as we seem to be very early in any potential Trevor Ariza trade talks, I didn’t quite touch on that, but I’ll get to that on tomorrow’s show.
Both Parker and Worthy were delights to talk to. These conversations were recorded back on Friday, when talk was all about Kevin Durant’s thoughts on playing alongside LeBron James. Let’s just say that his comments weren’t all that popular there at Spectrum SportsNet that day. Seeing as Parker played alongside a couple stars, so it was great to hear her talk about what kind of sacrifice is needed in all such situations.
Worthy and I focused more on this season in and of itself. It sure is nice to cover a good team for a change. This particular Lakers team seems to have a style of play that pleases fans of an older NBA. While some of that can come across as moot complaining, I do think there’s something to some of those gripes. We explain in this episode.
