Kobe Bryant celebrated his jersey retirement by working out at 4 a.m. because of course he did

This is the most Kobe thing possible.

Kobe Bryant will get the well-deserved honor seeing both his No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys retired by the Los Angeles Lakers in December after one of the best careers of any player in franchise history, something he said was a dream come true in a statement Tuesday.

"As a kid growing up in Italy, I always dreamed of my jersey hanging in the Lakers rafters, but I certainly never imagined two of them. The Lakers have bestowed a huge honor on me and I'm grateful for the fans' enthusiasm around this game," Bryant said.

So how did Bryant celebrate that dream? By not sleeping, at least according to his characteristically dramatic Instagram post showcasing his two-hour, 4:00 a.m. workout in China:

This is the most Kobe-possible Instagram post anyone could’ve imagined following the news of his jersey retirement. Did he go out to dinner? Did he have a party? No, he was right back in the gym long before dawn despite being as retired as both of his jerseys soon will be.

The pseudo-worship Bryant’s fans have for him is because of this type of narrative building, so this is actually the least surprising response possible.

Never change, Kobe, and congrats on the jersey retirement, but please, go have some fun at some point.
