Both will join the broadcast booth as “special guests” at times during the game.

Just in case the reason you were considering not buying a copy of NBA 2K18 was that Kobe Bryant wasn’t in the game enough, 2K has good news for you. According to sports gaming journalist Steve Noah of Operation Sports, both “Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett will join the broadcast booth on a rotating basis, as special guests in NBA 2K18.”

Bryant was already set to be featured in the game plenty and was rated a 98 overall as a starting member of the Lakers’ All-Time team, but now we’ll get to hear broadcast booth Kobe. If he’s anything close to as weirdly pseudo-philosophical as social media Kobe, we’re in for a treat.

Will Kobe just start spewing random Kobe-isms during the game? I can picture it now.

Kevin Harlan: “... Aaaand ANOTHER incredible pass by Lonzo Ball finds Kyle Kuzma in the corner for three! That is Lonzo’s 13th assist of the night as we head into the final minute of the fourth quarter with the Lakers’ trailing just 101-100.”

Kobe: “Kevin, the thing that impresses me the most about Lonzo is his vision. It reminds me of a Himalayan monk I visited in an effort to gain a better understanding of how to view game tape in my mind’s eye while I slept. Anyways, this monk could legitimately see the future. He told me how I would die. He told me how YOU would die. That’s the type of vision Lonzo has.”

Harlan: “Oh... Okay... Well, the Lakers just got a stop at the other end while you gave that horrifying anecdote. Any advice you would give Luke Walton heading into this timeout?”

Kobe: “Give me the damn ball and get the f**k out of my way.”

Harlan: “Kobe, you are in a full suit, you retired two years ago and we don’t allow cursing on the air.”

Kobe: “Mamba out.”

*** Kobe runs onto the floor, steals the ball from your player and hits the game winner ***

Kevin Garnett: “Anyyyyyythiiiiiiing is possssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiible!!!!!!!!!!”

At least that’s how I imagine it going.

Anyway, NBA 2K releases on September 19th. Even if Kobe doesn’t run on the court and steal game winners from you, it should probably be pretty cool.
