Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is excited to officially join the Lakers in free agency

The Los Angeles Lakers announced they had officially signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Thursday. The Detroit Pistons free agent is the first free agent the Lakers have signed this offseason, and will reportedly make $18 million in his one-year contract with the team.

That’s $18 million reasons to get excited, and Caldwell-Pope certainly appeared enthused:

With the addition of Caldwell-Pope, the Lakers official roster stands at 12 players, and 13 if they sign second-round pick Thomas Bryant to an NBA contract. The Lakers also only have $500,000 in cap space remaining, although the team can exceed the cap if they are only signing players to minimum contracts.

The Lakers also announced Thursday they had signed Las Vegas Summer League standout Alex Caruso to a two-year contract (reportedly for two years) that uses up one of the team’s two two-way deals available.

The Lakers now have 2-3 roster spots to add players (depending on what they do with Bryant) to get to the 15-man regular season roster maximum, with one more two-way contract to offer a free agent.
