The Los Angeles Lakers are less than 20 days away from making their selection with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and De’Aaron Fox may stand as the only thing between Lonzo Ball and a purple and gold jersey.
Sports Illustrated caught up with Fox in Los Angeles, interviewing him while he was driving about Southern California. While that may not be the safest idea, it was a light interview and one of the topics was a fan favorite: Basketball shoes.
Fox is a big fan of Kobe’s signature line, which will certainly tug on the heartstrings of LA fans.
“Kobe's, for sure for sure. I'm a Kobe fan. I've been wearing the Kobe's... I played in the 9's alot this year because when I hurt my ankle I just kept playing in them. If I had to pick one pair of Kobe's it'd probably be the Kobe 4's,” Fox said.
As far as shoes he’s definitely not a big fan of, Durant’s signature line is low on his list. He trashed both the 9’s and 7’s.
“The KD 9's are terrible. It was a KD with a strap on it that sucked too, like they looked good but they weren't a good basketball shoe ... It was the 7’s because they were after the 6’s which were crazy low. I liked the 6’s but the 7’s... horrible,” he said.
Things are definitely starting to heat up, but this little morsel of information from Fox may make him a shoo-in with the No. 2 pick. His favorite favorite Kobe’s are the 4’s, he wore the Kobe 9 much of last season and he absolutely trashed how ugly the KD 9’s are in a video with Sports Illustrated:
Kobe wore the 4’s during the 2008-2009 season, ending with him winning a championship in them. You may recall these beauties:

Fox definitely checks out on the “NBA Shoe Takes” category. His story checks out, too:

The latest lightning-fast star guard out of Kentucky has been the source of plenty of whispers that the Lakers aren’t ready to anoint Lonzo as their selection on draft day. There are definite Jahlil Okafor vs. D’Angelo Russell vibes heading down the stretch, and reports from anonymous NBA executives and sources.
What we do know is that Fox is beginning his pre-draft workout process, and he has the Lakers circled in on a date sometime next week. Ball, meanwhile, will be working out for Magic Johnson and the Lakers’ basketball operations team this Wednesday.
