The Los Angeles Lakers called Sacramento Kings free agent Ben McLemore in the opening hours of free agency, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

McLemore, the seventh overall selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, could be cheap, high-upside option for Los Angeles if he can turn into the type of shooter many projected him to be coming out of Kansas.

McLemore shot a career-high 38.2 percent on 3-pointers last season, and if he could continue that stroke he would provide a necessary dose of spacing for a 3-point shooting starved Lakers roster.

The only potential rub for McLemore is that he might want a longer deal than the one-year contracts the Lakers are likely offering while keeping as much cap space as possible for 2018, but it’s also possible he’d be interested in a big one-year contract to try and build up value for next summer under the bright lights in Los Angeles.
